The 2010 content roadmap for Vanguard was revealed in an announcement on the Vanguard official forums, and it's not all good news. Some of the additions players may have expected in 2010 are being shelved indefinitely due to limited resources, which is unfortunate.

However, on the plus side, this will allow the development team to release smaller, more frequent updates to the game, solving the longstanding issue of major gaps between updates.

Below is a list of the features to be shelved:

• Alternate Advancement

• Halls of Shattered Souls

• Stiirhaad Mountains

• Pankor Zhi

• Nexus

So with the above features out, what is the team going to be working on in 2010? One of the main goals for the Vanguard team in 2010 is executing a server merge to consolidate the community, though they do caution that this is not set in stone.

With the adjustment to the release schedule, the team is also looking to release a chunk of content every month, with the focus being on content for groups ranging from small to normal in size, with the possibility of some raid content tied in.

For more details on what's coming to Vanguard in 2010, you can read the full roadmap announcement here.

Atari and Cryptic Studios have released a new video featuring a behind-the-scenes look at a voice-over session with the recently announced "voice of Star Trek Online" Zachary Quinto.

Quinto, of course, played Spock in the J.J. Abrams Star Trek film released earlier this year. In Star Trek Online, Quinto will voice an Emergency Medical Hologram that will guide players through the game's tutorial.

Watch the video here.

Be sure to stay for the end of the video. Why? Let's just say the ESRB should add Mildly Evil Eyebrows to their rating for STO.

EVE Online's always outspoken Executive Producer Nathan Richardson answers the question: Sandbox games have proven that they stand the test of time. Why do you think the sandbox model appeals to players even after all these years?

It’s the other players--that’s the appeal. The sandbox is essentially an open environment, with rules and tools that empower players to become the “content” for everybody else playing. And this manifests itself on almost all levels of gameplay and interaction.

Playing the market is interesting because it is player-driven and you are competing with everyone else just by the simple act of selling or buying a good. If you run a mission for an agent and the rewards you gain end up on the market, you have become a competitor. Your resources gained through hacking sites or wormhole exploration are part of the supply and demand. Do you process them? Do you manufacture with them? Or do you research and gain a competitive edge in a specific area?

Rise of the Godslayer is the first expansion for Funcom's Age of Conan, and we've got an exclusive dev diary video on the expansion to bring you up to speed.

The video opens up with Funcom Director of Communications Erling Ellingsen explaining why Funcom chose GamesCom to reveal the expansion to the world. Ellingsen says that the fact the expansion was playable to gamers at GamesCom proved very valuable to Funcom as they were able to receive direct feedback from players.

Lead Expansion Designer Joel Bylos explains the reason Funcom decided to explore the oriental-themed Khitai with their first expansion, "It's about involving players in a completely new story, far away from the place where they began their journey."

Craig Morrison adds that Khitai was always "high on the list" when the company was looking for a new region to explore with their first expansion, but he explains that Howard only mentioned Khitai very briefly in his writings, so they relied on the story of the "Tower of the Elephant" which ties in heavily to Khitai.

Rise of the Godslayer will also make use of "visual storytelling", instead of simply relying on voice acting, quest text, etc. Some examples include a burning effigy of Conan, meteorites containing demons falling out of the sky, guards changing at the wall.

On the visuals of the Rise of Godslayer, Craig Morrison explains that Funcom wanted to look to ancient China and Korea as inspiration for the look of the expansion, while explicitly avoiding Japanese influences due to the fact they felt that it had been overused in recent games. Funcom even went so far as to send some of their team to some of the ancient sites in Korea and China in order to provide players with an authentic experience.

The expansion will contain five massive new regions, populated hundreds of hours of new quests, new dungeons, new endgame raid content, new exploration mechanics such as buried treasures to find and shrines to pray at, new enemy types, and new mounts.

Also coming to Age of Conan with Rise of the Godslayer are additions to combat with the introduction of the alternate advancement system, and new NPC abilities that will enhance enemy AI and make combat more challenging for players.
